Re-Clocking a Klune Underdrive

This is no big deal, and if performed competently, will not void your warranty. It is a part of the installation process in some cases where the adjustment provided in the 5 sets of stud positions on the front case half are inadequate to achieve the transfer case droop you desire.

1)      Remove the 6 bolts holding the 2 case halves together

2)      Locate the “Wide Pair” bolt pair (using a caliper or ruler, etc.) on both the front and rear of the unit. Identify the "Wide Pair" of mounting holes on the front and rear case halves. This will give you a reference point (about 3.6" apart. All the other pairs are spaced more like 3.35" apart). Use a marker to mark these positions on the side of the unit if desired. You can now see how your unit is clocked as is, and you can then have a reference to show you where to put it when you re-assemble

Note: Do NOT use the shift box for this reference. It is possible to mount the shift box in 3 different locations on this unit.

3)      Separate the 2 case halves. There are pry points located around the separation of the 2 halves for this purpose. It will be “glued” together by the RTV sealant, and may be stubborn. It is possible to inset a narrow chisel on the separation line inside the pry opening. Tap the chisel into the seam using a hammer to separate the case halves if necessary.

4)     Clean off excess dried RTV off the case halves.

5)      Using fresh RTV sealant to prevent leakage, bolt the two halves back together in the desired alignment. Note: Make sure the Range Sleeve is in the Fork, as shown below. (This is the only part that can fall out when you separate the case halves). The second picture below shows the unit with front and rear "Wide Pair" aligned front to rear. This is "zero" Clocking
