This is a strong, all gear drive transfer case. It
has quiet low range operation due to the use of helically cut low range
gears, unlike the Dana 20. Its weakest link is its output shaft, which can
be upgraded to a stout 32 spline part if necessary (PN 50-3032). This part
is available trough Klune-V. Jeep Dana 300: From 1980-1986 Jeep CJs used Dana 300 transfer cases. Jeep Dana 300s have a right hand drop (front drive shaft on the passenger side). They have the same circular bolt pattern found on the Klune-V Extreme Underdrive. No adapter is required to mate the Klune-V Extreme Underdrive to the Jeep Dana 300. A 3/4" spacer KV100105 in conjunction with the Klune mounting foot is required in order for the rear of the crawler housing to clear the input bearing retainer and seal of the Dana 300.
The Jeep Dana 300 has a 23 spline female input. The
Klune-V Extreme Underdrive for this application is thus supplied with a 23
spline (male) output shaft. High horsepower V8 applications using a Klune with a
Dana 300: It is often desirable to upgrade the Dana 300 input to 32 spline
part (PN 52-0208). This is due to the fact that while the 23 spline shaft
will hold the load at the transmission output shaft, adding in the torque
multiplication of a Klune may make a 23 spline shaft marginal between the
Klune and the transfer case. This part is available trough Klune-V. Transfer Case Shifter Use of the original shifter is usually pretty straight forward. These cases typically came with shifters mounted to the front of the case. While there are a number of variations, we have not found any that will not work with the Crawler in place. Some require minor modification. Unmodified, the shifter will exit the floorboards to the rear of where it originally came out. Alternately, the shifter can be modified or a different shifter installed that will have longer linkage rods and will exit at or near the stock location. Transmission Bolt-Up Transmissions that originally bolted up to a Jeep Dana 300 will also bolt directly to the Klune-V Extreme Underdrive. The crawler is supplied with a 23 spline female input gear in this case. This input will properly mate up to your existing 23 spline transmission or adapter output shaft. Transfer Case Specifications:Low Range reduction ratio: 2.6:1Transfer Case Overall Length:(measured from bolt-up surface to U-joint center in Rear yoke) The most common of these units is about 14” in length. There is a unit used in a few applications with a shorter tail housing which is about 12” long.
