Ford ZF 5 Speed Conversions

Updating older vehicles to have 5 or 6 speed or converting from auto to stick.

We can put together conversion package updating older Fords to use the ZF 5speed  thus adding the Overdrive and modernizing the drivetrain. There are quote a few variables in putting together the correct combination of parts: These transmissions were made for different engine bolt patterns, different gear ratios, different torque specs , applications for Diesel and Gas engines, 

6 Speeds are a bit more restrictive, due to fewer engine bolt patterns available and different output shafts than commonly used in Ford vehicle. We are researching methods of accomplishing these conversions. Call for info.

Flywheel and Clutch

We can also supply the necessary flywheel and clutch components for automatic to stick trans conversion.

Clutch Linkage

We can supply master-slave cylinder sets for such conversion. Mechanical parts such as pedal assemblies, and mechanical linkages are junkyard or fabricated items.

2WD or 4WD

2wd transmission come with provisions for fixed yoke Output.

ZF 5 speed 4WD transmissions are supplied with the 6 bolt circular patter.  it will have a 31 spline output shaft. 31 spline has been Ford full-size standard, used on Ford NP203, NP205, NP205, BW1356, NP271 and other transfer cases. these transfer cases will bolt up directly to a ZF 5speed.

ZF 6 speed transmissions, depending on model, come with either 24 or 34 spline output shafts. We are familiar with New Process 27x series transfer cases that bolt to these transmissions. 

A Klune-V Extreme Underdrive is also available to bolt to 31, 24 and 34 spline ZF transmissions.  The Klune can then be supplied with a 31 spline output thus adapting the 6 speed to the older, more common Ford NP203, NP205, NP205, BW1356, NP271 and other transfer cases.

S5-42 Gas Units

• Model Year 1987 - 1995

• 1992 and newer applications have the electronic speedo.

• On all 4 x 4 and Superduty applications, the speedo cable connects to either the parking brake or the transfer case.

• 1987-1991 4 x 2 applications have a 7 or 8 tooth speedo that connects via the transmission.

• 4 x 4 units are used in 4 x 2 superduty applications.

• If a 4 x 2 vehicle is equipped with electronic speedo, use O.E. speedo plug number F2UZ 7H183A.

• 1307 050 064ZW only used in UPS vehicles.

• S5-42 units are not interchangeable with S5-47 units.

• Gas units must use ZF recommended Dexron Il/MERCON® XT-2 QDX or DDX equivalent.
